Dr. Tang is a character in Sleeping Dogs. He develops technology to help the Sun On Yee and asks Wei Shen to test his prototypes.
Background[]
Dr. Tang is a scientist affiliated with the Sun On Yee. He first met Wei Shen when he just finished inventing a tracking beacon that can be used through sewers, so that Sun On Yee could traffic drugs without any hassle. Wei then climbed into the subject vehicle, a Movit Van that has been rigged with Tang's invention. The first tracking beacon prototype was a success. Later on, he improved his tracking beacon so that it can be used for high speed driving, putting it into a Bisai to test it, with Wei being the test driver. Again, the improved tracking beacon works effectively. Next, after inventing tracking beacons, he invented something else: a GPS device which can be used to evade any chasers, which he put into a Citta scooter. Wei tested it and the beacon works perfectly.
Dr. Tang made another appearance in the Wheels of Fury DLC. This time, he invented the DZS-90 armored supercar. He asked Wei to help him because his project hits a problem: the parts for the DZS-90 has to be shipped separately and the base car has been stolen. Fortunately (or perhaps, to make matters slightly worse), Dr. Tang sends six decoys that had been rigged with explosives, and the original one is the one that doesn't blow up when Wei drive it. After obtaining the base car, Tang equips the car with various amenities: EMP system to paralyze other cars' electronics, cruise control for defensive measures (which scares Wei because it was hacked by 18K), two miniguns, armor plating and performance upgrades. To test the whole car, Dr. Tang organized a race among the triads, where the participants shoot each other through drive-by and the winner will get the car. Wei survives the race and then persuades (coerces) Dr. Tang to allow him to own the car and "persuades" Dr. Tang not to make any more copies of this car, which Dr. Tang (reluctantly) agrees.
